Rwanda's 2030 F1 Gamble: Can Paul Kagame Put Africa Back on the Grid? | Firstpost Africa

Description: Watch this video as Firstpost explains how Formula One engines could soon roar across African soil for the first time in more than three decades, with Paul Kagame’s Rwanda reportedly securing an agreement to host an F1 Grand Prix for the 2030 season. RacingNews365 reports that a deal has been reached, ending a 37-year absence since the last South African Grand Prix at Kyalami. Backed by motorsport icons like Lewis Hamilton and tied to a wider national strategy to transform Kigali into a premier global hub for aviation, tourism, and elite sports investments like the Basketball Africa League, Rwanda is planning a brand-new purpose-built circuit near Bugesera International Airport. However, as Kigali steps onto F1's high-stakes global stage, it faces fierce commercial competition from South Africa and intense international scrutiny regarding regional security dynamics.
