We Turned Two Cars Into One… Now It Needs a Roll Cage
Description: This is one of the biggest milestones in the SubaRancho build so far.
In this episode, we install a custom roll cage to add strength and rigidity as we continue transforming a Talbot Matra Rancho into a one-of-a-kind machine using a Subaru Impreza WRX chassis and running gear.
Building a classic car body swap from scratch means every part has to be engineered, fabricated and tested. With so much of the original structure removed, the roll cage becomes a key part of the build, providing additional strength while helping create a safe, rigid foundation for everything that comes next.
This project belongs to Jonny Smith from The Late Brake Show, and together we're creating a completely unique Subaru-powered Talbot Matra Rancho. Every episode takes us one step closer to a finished, road-going car that combines classic styling with modern performance and reliability.
If you enjoy classic car restoration, project cars, metal fabrication, automotive welding, custom car builds, engine swaps, and ambitious engineering projects, this series is for you.
