B.B. King with "Darling You Know I Love You"
Description: Experience an intimate, masterclass performance by the legendary B.B. King as he delivers a beautifully relaxed rendition of "Darling You Know I Love You."
Captured during the filming of his acclaimed instructional video series, B.B. King's Bluesmaster, this pristine footage offers a rare glimpse of the King of the Blues operating in a uniquely focused, educational environment. It stands as a definitive document of his signature phrasing and effortless control, stripped away from the massive crowds of his usual arena tours.
The Performance
This specific studio recording is a brilliant study in subtlety and dynamic control. Seated center stage in a sharp burgundy suit, B.B. King commands the intimate soundstage with his beloved Gibson ES-355, Lucille. Without the pressure of a sprawling live audience, he delivers the track's pleading lyrics with a warm, conversational vocal approach, perfectly interspersed with his trademark stinging, vibrato-rich guitar fills.
The performance is beautifully framed by the program's distinct set design, featuring softly illuminated frosted glass panels, industrial pendant lamps, and atmospheric red and green stage lighting. King is supported by a remarkably tight studio ensemble—complete with a horn section and a classic wood-cased organ—that perfectly locks into the song's slow, swinging groove. The band masterfully hangs back, providing a lush, dynamic cushion that allows every nuance of King's legendary tone to shine through with absolute clarity.
The Bluesmaster Series
Originally produced by DCI Music Video and released on VHS around 1993 (and later compiled for DVD release), the Bluesmaster series was designed as a multi-part instructional journey. Rather than just playing a standard concert, B.B. King sat down in this closed studio setting to explicitly discuss his musical influences, demonstrate his pioneering string-bending techniques, and play through full tracks to show his methods in context. The resulting footage serves as both an educational tool and a high-fidelity archive of his modern studio sound.
