The original study reported that standing in an expansive posture changed your hormones and your appetite for risk. Then Eva Ranehill and her colleagues repeated it with a sample about five times larger. The hormone and risk effects disappeared. What survived was the smaller result: posing made people feel more powerful. Feeling powerful and performing well turned out to be two different things.
Which is the case for practicing competence instead. The feeling is downstream of the evidence, not the other way round.
