Tommy Davidson Mocks Our Radio Voices | Rizzuto Show Interview
Description: Tommy Davidson (In Living Color, Varnell Hill on Martin, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, The Proud Family) walks into The Rizzuto Show studio in St. Louis and, before he even sits down, does the guys' radio voices right back at them. Rizz: "Is that what I sound like?" Tommy: "Yes."
From there it's 40 minutes of Tommy Davidson hanging out with Rizz, Moon, Lern and Rafe: two years on the road opening for Katt Williams (the arena shows, the backstage buffet, and why Katt is "kind of batty"), heartburn for the first time at 62 ("110 in white man age"), the seven-year fight to get The Varnell Hill Show made for Paramount+ after a late-night call from Kid of Kid 'n Play and one pitch to Martin Lawrence, the day Jim Carrey ordered a bulldozer on the Ace Ventura 2 set, how Tommy found the actual backpack he fought Ace from, and why the Ace Ventura rhino sold for $60,000.
Then the guys run Tommy through "Hollywood's most open secrets," true or false: steroids, the dirtbags everybody knew about, the Diddy white party Tommy got turned away from (Diddy was his assistant on his first movie), Morgan Freeman snubbing an Electric Company kid on the red carpet, whether Stevie Wonder is really blind, and Tommy's own confession, "I'm really white" – the true story of being abandoned in a pile of trash as a baby in Mississippi, found under a tire by the white Colorado teachers who raised him, and not finding out he was Black until the D.C. riots of 1968 (35:02).
Tommy Davidson is at Helium Comedy Club in St. Louis this weekend. The Varnell Hill Show is streaming on Paramount+, and his movie Search Party: Where's Pawpaw is out November 13.
