We Can Track Supermarket Sausages But Not Released Prisoners? | Steve N Allen
Description: **700 Prisoners Released, But How Many Were Electronically Tagged? | Steve Allen | UKLIVE**
Hundreds of prisoners released early, questions over electronic tagging and a government unable to provide the figures. Just how safe is Britain's prison release system?
Comedian and broadcaster **Steve Allen** joins **Mark Littlewood and Paul Cox** on UKLIVE to discuss the controversy surrounding the early release of 700 prisoners and the effectiveness of electronic monitoring.
With questions being raised over how many released prisoners are actually wearing electronic tags, Steve asks whether the technology is doing enough to protect the public.
And in typical Steve Allen fashion, he points out a rather extraordinary comparison: **if supermarkets can use GPS technology to track stolen sausages, why can't we do the same with criminals?**
But that's not all. The conversation also tackles:
- **Prisoner early release:** Are ministers putting prison capacity ahead of public safety?
- **Electronic tagging:** What happens when offenders breach their curfews, and are there meaningful consequences?
- **ADHD and autism diagnoses:** Steve questions whether some children are being diagnosed too readily and whether early labels can sometimes be unhelpful.
- **Private healthcare:** Are financial incentives affecting the accuracy of some diagnoses?
- **Gambling taxes:** Steve and Mark clash over proposals to increase taxes on betting shops and casinos, potentially putting thousands of jobs at risk.
- **Gambling versus insurance:** Is taking out an insurance policy really so different from placing a bet?
From the prison system to the NHS and the gambling industry, it's another lively, outspoken and frequently hilarious discussion of the stories making headlines in Britain.
**Do you trust Britain's electronic tagging system? And should prisoners be released early when prisons are full? Let us know in the comments.**
📺 **Watch Mike Graham's UKLIVE** for independent news, political debate, outspoken opinions, interviews and plenty of common sense.
