LeetCode 3070 | Count Submatrices with Top-Left Element and Sum Less Than k | Java | CodeByTushu
Description: π Welcome Back to CodeByTushu!
In todayβs video, we solve LeetCode 3070 β Count Submatrices with Top-Left Element and Sum Less Than k using 2D Prefix Sum in Java.
The problem asks us to count all submatrices starting at the top-left cell (0, 0) whose total element sum is less than or equal to k. Every such submatrix is uniquely determined by its bottom-right corner (i, j). Consequently, computing the sum of any candidate submatrix translates directly to finding the 2D prefix sum of the grid up to cell (i, j).
Using the inclusion-exclusion principle, the prefix sum at (i, j) is calculated from the current cell plus the sum of the cell directly above, plus the cell to the left, minus the diagonally overlapping top-left cell. We accumulate these prefix sums directly in-place within the matrix to maintain strict O(1) auxiliary space, checking whether each evaluated sum is less than or equal to k in optimal O(m * n) overall runtime.
π₯ Problem Highlights
β Unique submatrix characterization anchored at the origin (0, 0)
