In this episode of the SubaRancho build, we finally get the Subaru Impreza WRX running gear back onto the car and reach one of the biggest milestones of the entire project.
For months, this has been nothing more than a crazy idea — taking what was left of Jonny Smith's Talbot Matra Rancho and combining it with a Subaru Impreza WRX to create a completely one-off classic car body swap.
We've cut the cars apart, built new structure, fabricated the floor, repaired the Rancho shell, created custom sills, joined the two cars together and completely rebuilt the running gear.
Now it's time for the moment we've been working towards...
The SubaRancho is finally sitting on its own four wheels.
And then comes something that makes all those hours of fabrication feel worthwhile — we push it outside for the first time.
Seeing this crazy combination actually rolling under its own weight is a pretty special moment. There's still a huge amount of work to do before this car is finished, but for the first time, it genuinely starts to feel like we're building a real car rather than just cutting two cars apart!
The SubaRancho is owned by Jonny Smith from The Late Brake Show, & made by Yorkshire Car Restoration.
If you're enjoying this completely insane classic car body swap, make sure you subscribe and follow the build as we turn this pile of metal into something that has never existed before.
What do you think of the SubaRancho so far? Let me know in the comments!
