Case study 234 | Adult De Novo Degenerative Scoliosis | Explained by neurosurgeon Dr Betsy Grunch
Description: Case Study 234 | Adult Degenerative Scoliosis
Adult de novo scoliosis isn’t something you’re born with, it develops later in life as the spine gradually changes with age. As discs wear down and joints degenerate, the spine can begin to shift and rotate, leading to a curve that wasn’t there before. Many patients notice a gradual lean, difficulty standing upright, back pain, or leg symptoms from nerve compression.
The challenge is that MRI findings often focus on individual levels, while the bigger problem may be the overall alignment of the spine. That’s why standing X-rays are so important, they allow us to see the entire picture.
