Why is a knife being rubbed under a calf’s tongue? #animalfacts #wildlife #facts

Description: The calf is suffering from a painful oral infection that prevents it from nursing, putting its life in serious danger. In urgent situations like this, waiting for modern medicine to work could be too late.

Instead, the farmer carefully scrapes under the tongue, applies freshly squeezed lime juice, and follows it with a white healing powder, an age-old method meant to clean and treat the infection quickly. What might seem like mistreatment is actually an act of care, driven by generations of experience and the will to save an animal in distress.
