Trump says he ‘looks forward to signing’ $5,000 dividend checks
Description: President Donald Trump is again promising a $5,000 “Trump dividend” to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain control of both the House and Senate in the November 2026 midterm elections.
Trump said in a Truth Social video that he looks forward to signing the checks, but he has not provided a detailed funding mechanism for the proposed payments.
USA TODAY estimates that sending $5,000 to roughly 270 million American adults would cost about $1.3 trillion, while economists have warned that such a large distribution could contribute to higher prices and interest rates.
The proposal would require congressional approval, and House Speaker Mike Johnson said Republicans would consider how to implement it, while some lawmakers in both parties have expressed opposition, the USA Today has reported.
The proposed dividend remains a pledge rather than an approved federal payment, unlike the $500 ACA rebates that have already begun reaching eligible recipients in 30 states.
