Ebenezer — The Scariest Christmas Movie Ever Made Is Coming
Description: #Ebenezer #JohnnyDepp #TiWest
The man who created Jack Sparrow is now playing Scrooge. And the director of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine is turning A Christmas Carol into a horror movie. This is not the Christmas story you grew up with.
Paramount Pictures is releasing Ebenezer on November 13, 2026 and it promises to be the most unique and terrifying adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol ever put on screen. Ti West, the horror auteur behind the X trilogy including X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, directs from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern. Johnny Depp stars as Ebenezer Scrooge and from the trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con it is clear that Depp is bringing the same transformative character-building energy that created Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and the Mad Hatter. The tagline says it all: the name you know, the story you don't.
The cast is stacked with Oscar-caliber talent across every role. Andrea Riseborough plays the Ghost of Christmas Past as an ethereal otherworldly supernatural being. Tramell Tillman from Severance plays the Ghost of Christmas Present bringing his signature unsettling intensity from the Apple TV hit. Robert Strange plays the Ghost of Christmas Future. Ian McKellen joins in an undisclosed role widely rumored to be Jacob Marley, Scrooge's dead business partner who returns as a tormented ghost wrapped in chains. Daisy Ridley from the Star Wars sequel trilogy plays Emily Cratchit. Rupert Grint from the Harry Potter franchise joins in an undisclosed role. Sam Claflin plays Fred, Scrooge's cheerful nephew who refuses to give up on the old miser. Arthur Conti plays young Ebenezer in the flashback sequences guided by the Ghost of Christmas Past.
Ellie Bamber, Charlie Murphy, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes round out the supporting cast. The film was produced by Emma Watts and shot on location in Dublin and London from January through April 2026. Post-production was completed in October 2026 with the film locked and ready for its November release. Paramount first unveiled footage at CinemaCon in April before debuting the full trailer at SDCC. This is Johnny Depp's first major studio release through Paramount and his second comeback film alongside Day Drinker which releases through Lionsgate on March 26, 2027. Two major Hollywood studio releases within six months marks the most significant comeback in Depp's career. In this video we break down everything about Ebenezer including the full cast, Ti West's horror approach to Dickens, the three Christmas ghosts, the Ian McKellen Marley rumors, and why this could be the scariest and most original Christmas movie ever made.
