Building the Next Generation Newsroom | RTS Technology Centre

Description: How do you build a modern newsroom that can handle multiple languages, platforms and live output without adding more complexity?

In this Royal Television Society Technology Centre event, the BBC and nxtedition explain how the BBC India & Collective Newsroom was designed and launched as a next generation newsroom supporting 11 languages across digital, TV and audio.

Adam Leah from nxtedition and Ian Moss from the BBC walk through how the system was built to simplify workflows, reduce technical friction and let journalists focus on storytelling.

The project combines integrated newsroom workflows, on premise infrastructure, local AI processing, HTML graphics and a single window approach that removes the need to jump between systems.

This is a practical case study in newsroom transformation, showing how to deliver speed, reliability and scale under real operational pressure.

What you’ll learn:
• How BBC India built a multi language newsroom
• How integrated workflows improve journalism
• Why on premise and hybrid models are still critical
• How AI supports newsroom production without replacing journalists
• How HTML graphics and automation fit into daily workflows
• How to reduce fragmentation in newsroom systems
• Lessons from deploying a newsroom under tight deadlines

Featuring:
Adam Leah, Creative Director at nxtedition
Ian Moss, BBC
Hosted by Kim Rowell, Royal Television Society Technology Centre
