The Imperial Army's abusive confiscation of food is causing distress in a village where soldiers encourage the locals to hunt the Ninkū. After Fūsuke rescues Aichō, his former comrade who had been captured by three brothers from the village, the outpost commander, Lee, holds the three brothers hostage and lures the Ninkū to a deadly trap.

During the war between the Republican and Imperial armies, the Ninkū clan, who had pushed the Imperial Army to the brink of defeat, suddenly stopped fighting for some mysterious reason, and vanished without a trace.
The Empire's eventual victory was narrow, and three years after the war ended, it began an operation to eradicate any remnants of the Ninkū.
Fūsuke, the former captain of the 1st Ninkū unit, was traveling in search of his mother, who was abducted when he was a child. He reunites with his old comrades and they all continue their journey together.
