'I Will Cuff You in The University Square' | US Student Visa Crackdown | Spotlight

Description: The Trump administration has launched investigations into nine major US universities over alleged misuse of J-1 exchange visas, with officials claiming the programme could disadvantage American workers. Harvard, Yale, Stanford and MIT are among the institutions facing scrutiny. The crackdown comes alongside proposed changes affecting international graduates seeking post-study work opportunities and new rules governing how long some foreign students and exchange visitors can remain in the United States. Daniela Laurel breaks down the J-1 and F-1 visa systems, the investigations, the proposed OPT-related fee and the potential implications for Indian students, international researchers, universities and cross-border scientific collaboration.
