“The First Military Execution in 65 Years” #breakingnews #geopolitics #worldnews #pentagon #trump

Description: The Pentagon announced Monday that Trump approved Defense Secretary Hegseth’s recommendation to execute Nidal Hasan by US Army firing squad. “Judgement day for Hasan has finally come,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said. Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, opened fire inside Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Center on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and wounding 32 others while soldiers prepared for deployment. He was convicted by a military jury in 2013 and sentenced to death; his final legal appeal was rejected in April 2025. If carried out, it’ll be the first US military execution since 1961, and the first by firing squad since Pvt. Eddie Slovik was executed for desertion in 1945. The Army was controversially criticized at the time for initially classifying the attack as “workplace violence” rather than terrorism. Hegseth previously told Fox News, “I am 100 percent committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan… the victims and survivors deserve justice without delays.” The Secretary of the Army will now set the execution’s time and place, required by regulation to fall within 60 to 150 days of presidential approval, though Hasan may still pursue further legal challenges that could delay it.

My take: “Seventeen years is an extraordinarily long wait for the victims’ families, and this marks a genuinely rare moment in modern US military history, no one has faced this kind of execution in over six decades.”

CTA: “Thinking of the victims and families who’ve waited 17 years for this moment.”
