Get well soon Feef!

Description: On Saturday morning, Fiona started throwing up and having minor diarrhea. We didn’t think too much of it at the time. We watch our pets very closely, but we also live in the woods and sometimes Fiona can get into things she isn’t supposed to even with us hovering over her. Unfortunately, it continued to carry into Saturday night, and the biggest worry we had was her symptoms getting worse during a holiday weekend with our vet closed until Tuesday.

We took her to the ER... and we were there until 3am Sunday morning. Her blood panel looked normal and her x-rays showed no signs of obstruction, so they sent us home with medication to treat her symptoms since everything else appeared normal.

Then it got a lot worse. Her diarrhea was happening every 45 minutes, and she began intermittently leaking out of her rectum uncontrollably. We raced her back to the ER and they immediately hospitalized her.

She has spent the last 3 nights in hospitalization.

What has made this very scary is that she has had her blood panel tested every 12 hours while hospitalized, and her Albumin levels decreased from 2.5 to 1.8. Albumin helps steer fluids in the body to the proper places. When Albumin gets dangerously low (around 1.5) fluids can enter parts of the body that they otherwise shouldn’t. We had to discuss what a plasma transfusion might look like for Fiona if this value continued to decline.

This morning we got an update that her Albumin has remained static at 1.9 which excites the doctors because they feel like she’s beginning to stabilize her protein levels.

We just want to thank the wonderful vet team for loving our girl as much as we do... and I want to reiterate to look into a pet insurance policy for your pet if you don’t have one. On Saturday morning, Sarah and I were discussing fun Labor Day weekend plans... 4 days later, we’re looking at 5-figure vet bills. Fiona is covered, but we don’t want other pet families to ever feel the burden of letting finances get in the way of getting your babies care when they need it.

They need to get her diarrhea under control before sending her home.

Thanks for always rooting for our Feef ❤️ Close description
