Two weeks ago I couldn’t see out of my only eye.
If you’re just getting here, catch up fast. What started as what I thought was a stye turned into weeks of swelling, pain, and a hard lump on my lid that wouldn’t go away. I lost my right eye to cancer when I was 2 years old and I’ve worn a prosthetic ever since, which means everything I see runs through one eye. And for over a month, that eye was in trouble too.
Then it got worse before it got better.
They put me on drops. Nobody warned me what the first hour would feel like.
Everything went. Not blurry. Gone. I’m sitting there with the only working eye I have and I genuinely cannot see out of it, and my brain is doing the math on what my life looks like if this doesn’t come back. I’ve been through eye surgeries. I’ve been through losing an eye as a kid I don’t even remember. This was the first time as an adult that I sat in the dark and didn’t know if it was temporary.
It was temporary. It came back in about two hours. But those two hours are in this video and I filmed all of them.
That’s not the end of the story though.
This video covers two full weeks. Every day of it. The drops, the blindness, the slow return of my vision, the lump on my lid finally starting to shrink, and where I’m at right now compared to where I was when I told you something was seriously wrong.
Here’s where I’ve landed.
My real eye has healed. The redness is gone. The blurriness is gone. I can see normally out of it for the first time in over a month, and I did not know if that was going to happen.
My prosthetic side isn’t perfect yet. It’s still not all the way back. But it’s dramatically better than it was, and for the first time since this started, it’s moving in the right direction instead of the wrong one.
For over a month I filmed myself getting worse and had nothing to tell you except that I didn’t know. This is the first video where I actually have good news.
