(#alamin)
Protesting students have confined the new Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Dr. Sheikh Sharifullah Alam, inside his office. In addition to locking the administrative building, electricity and water supplies have been cut off. The new Vice-Chancellor entered his office by breaking the lock on the morning of the 21st day following his appointment. Upon learning of this, students staged a sit-in in front of the administrative building and eventually padlocked the main gate. On September 21, the Ministry of Education appointed Dr. Sheikh Sharifullah Alam—a professor from KUET—as the new Vice-Chancellor, removing the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem. Students have been protesting and observing a "complete shutdown" for 21 consecutive days to oppose this decision and demand the reinstatement of the former Vice-Chancellor. Subsequently, intensifying the movement, teachers, officers, and staff members also initiated a full work stoppage and sit-in program. With classes and examinations suspended, there are growing concerns regarding a potential session jam at the university.
