Why Oppenheimer Is Weirdly Comforting?

Description: Why does a film about the creation of the atomic bomb feel… comforting?

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is three hours of nuclear anxiety, political paranoia, scientific obsession and impending catastrophe. So why do I keep coming back to it?

In this video, I look at why Oppenheimer is such a strangely comforting film to rewatch,, from Jennifer Lame’s relentless editing and the film’s hypnotic pacing to Ludwig Göransson’s incredible score, particularly “Can You Hear the Music”.

Maybe comfort doesn't always mean feeling happy. Maybe sometimes it means familiarity, rhythm, and knowing exactly where you're going.

Or maybe I just really like watching Cillian Murphy stare into the middle distance while Ludwig Göransson absolutely loses his mind on a violin.
