
Why Bond Yields Are Climbing Around the World
Description: Bond yields are climbing almost daily around the world, sparking a heated debate over the reasons why and how much further they have to run.
A global selloff in fixed-income has driven benchmark 10-year Treasury yields to the highest since 2007, and more than half of 173 respondents to a Markets Pulse survey last week predicted US 30-year yields will hit 6% by the end of the year.
Borrowing costs from Japan to France are also setting new milestones, helping to drive the yield on the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Treasuries Total Return Index to the highest since 2000. Global bonds have lost 2.7% this year, while equities gained 13%.
