I Spent 3 Days with the SEA NOMADS 🇮🇩 (Bajau Tribe)

In this video, we spend 3 days living with the Bajau tribe (also known as the "Sea Nomads") in the remote village of Pulau Papan, located in the Togean Islands of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The Bajau are a semi-nomadic indigenous people spread across Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, famous for living in villages built on stilts directly over the open ocean. Over centuries of living in harmony with the sea, they have developed incredible biological adaptations—including spleens that are nearly 50% larger than average, allowing them to store more oxygenated blood like a natural, built-in oxygen tank.
Our 3-Day Journey:
Day 1: We take a 5-hour local ferry ride from the mainland (Ampana) into the heart of the Togean Archipelago to arrive at Pulau Papan—a village so isolated in the sea that you can’t even see land where you are on Google Maps!
The Homestay: We check into our guesthouse built entirely on stilts over the water. Here, our "backyard" was a coral reef packed with tropical fish and clams, visible right through the floorboards!
Traditional Spearfishing: We head out into the ocean with a local Bajau fisherman. Watching him hunt underwater using only handmade wooden goggles, a speargun, and a boat rope tied around his waist—surfacing only for brief gasps of air—was one of the most unbelievable things we've ever witnessed.
Village Life: We take a tour across the wooden walkways connecting the village, meet the locals, and experience the warm culture of this majority-Muslim sea community.
