Tank China flew us to Hangzhou for the global launch of the all new Tank 300, where we had the opportunity to get behind the wheel, inspect the vehicle up close, and even take to the stage to share our first impressions of the new platform. With a longer wheelbase, the brand new Hi4 Z drivetrain, and no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles, this is a vehicle that's set to divide the 4WD community.
In this episode, Byron and Rico break down what the all new Tank 300 is all about, why it's known as the Tank 300L in China, and how the additional 260 mm of wheelbase changes the driving experience on and off road. We compare Hi4 T and Hi4 Z based on our experience owning both the Denza B5 and Denza B8, discuss why the disconnected drivetrain feels so smooth compared to a traditional transfer case, and ask whether the concerns from hardcore four wheel drivers are justified.
We also cover the claimed 200 km CLTC electric range, what that realistically means in everyday driving, the effect on breakover angle, and why this drivetrain has already been proven in the Tank 500 and Tank 700 over the past two years.
