“Xi’s First White House Visit in a Decade” #breakingnews #worldnews #trump #xijinping #china #news

Description: Trump welcomed Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan for Xi’s first White House visit since 2015, an elaborate day including a military review, B-1 bomber flyover, and a formal East Room state dinner featuring a pescatarian menu Melania Trump personally planned. “President Xi and I have forged a friendship, a truly great friendship, actually,” Trump said. Xi called the rapid exchange of state visits, Trump visited China in May, this in September, “unprecedented” in the countries’ history, and said the two nations have “even greater scope for cooperation” on AI despite ongoing competition. A day earlier, US and Chinese officials agreed to extend their tariff truce two months. Trump presented Xi with a custom bald eagle statue as a gift. Tech executives including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Sam Altman attended. Despite a federal judge temporarily blocking Trump’s ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, both CNN and MS NOW reported being denied access again to cover the visit, meaning no network TV pool coverage of Xi’s arrival.

My take: “The warmth on display here, ‘truly great friendship,’ shared dinner, gift exchanges, sits in real tension with everything simmering underneath: an active AI rivalry, the recent satellite-imagery findings tied to a deadly Iran strike, and a tariff relationship still just two months from its next deadline.”

CTA: “Does this friendly optics translate into real cooperation, or does the underlying rivalry stay unresolved?”
