Pakistan Declares Emergency in Imran Khan's Stronghold, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | N18G

Description: Pakistan has declared an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Imran Khan’s stronghold, escalating the confrontation between the Shehbaz Sharif government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The move strips the PTI-led provincial government of its powers, with Islamabad citing a deteriorating law and order situation and accusing the provincial administration of failing to tackle militancy. The emergency comes amid growing protests by supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who are demanding his release. On October 4, PTI supporters launched a ‘long march’ from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad after talks between the government and Khan’s representatives failed. Meanwhile, PTI leader Junaid Akbar has claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has been arrested.
