Sagarmanthan 2026 LIVE: How Mauritius Can Unlock The Power Of The Blue Economy | ORF x Firstpost
Description: Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Mauritius has a unique opportunity to harness its maritime resources to drive economic growth, create jobs and strengthen regional connectivity. From sustainable fisheries and marine conservation to ocean-based industries and maritime trade, the blue economy offers island nations new pathways to prosperity. How can Mauritius turn its island advantage into long-term economic resilience while protecting the ocean ecosystems on which its future depends?
At Sagarmanthan 2026, Arvin Boolell, Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy & Fisheries, Mauritius, and Shivam Shekhawat, Associate Fellow, ORF, India, explore Mauritius' blue economy ambitions and the opportunities emerging across its maritime sectors. The discussion examines how sustainable ocean resource management, strategic partnerships and investment in marine industries can support economic diversification, strengthen regional cooperation and position Mauritius within the evolving global maritime economy.
Hosted by ORF x Firstpost in New Delhi, Sagarmanthan 2026 brings together 1,200+ speakers, delegates and participants from nearly 75 countries to examine the future of oceans, maritime security, connectivity, technology, trade and cooperation.
