Hollywood Shuffle

Description: Frustrated by the lack of good roles for Black actors, Robert Townsend co-scripted with Keenen Ivory Wayans, directed and starred in this “exuberant, tirelessly energetic [...] and easy-to-like” (Janet Maslin, The New York Times) comedy that took Hollywood by storm! Struggling actor Bobby Taylor (Townsend) dreams of landing a role...any role. But in a town where Black roles are usually limited to the same old stereotypes – gang-bangers and pimps – Bobby learns that you have to dream up your own parts. And that’s exactly what he does – in vivid daydreams that take a hilarious, satirical look at Hollywood! Spoofing everything from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Eddie Murphy to movie critics Siskel & Ebert, Bobby’s wild imagination – and “Hollywood Shuffle” – are “an exhilarating blast (New York)! Keenen Ivory Wayans, Anne-Marie Johnson, Helen Martin, Craigus R. Johnson, Starletta DuPois, Damon Wayans, John Witherspoon and David McKnight also star in this groundbreaking comedy! Close description
