Vance defends taxpayer funded ads: "Not partisan"
Description: Vice President JD Vance on Monday defended the taxpayer-funded ads promoting President Trump, calling them "not partisan" and arguing there is historical precedent for the government to advertise its policies.
"If you look historically — go back to the Obama administration with the Affordable Care Act — you have the people's government using tax dollars to advertise about what the government is doing," he told reporters before departing for a trip to Alaska.
The series of ads promoting the president and his policies, including one that closely resembles his 2024 campaign ad, is being funded through a $20 million government contract and has drawn criticism from both Republicans and Democrats over the use of taxpayer dollars.
"I don't think there's anything unusual or unorthodox about it. I'm sure that some people probably don't like it. But if you look at the message of those advertisements, they're not partisan," the vice president said. "It's not like we're advocating for a particular candidate. We're trying to tell a story, I think, about how great the United States of America is."
