Custom Hand Fabricated Sills On This 1 of 1 Classic Body Swapped Car

Description: The SubaRancho is starting to look like a real car… and this episode is a BIG step forward.

We’re taking a completely rotten Talbot Matra Rancho shell and combining it with a Subaru Impreza WRX floor pan and running gear to create a 1-of-1 classic car body swap.

After building the passenger and driver's side sills from individual pieces of sheet steel, this episode is all about making them permanent. The sections are only tacked together at the start, so now I need to fully weld them, carefully manage heat distortion, grind the welds back and turn all those separate pieces into proper, finished sill panels.

And after so many episodes of cutting the Rancho and Subaru apart, fabricating individual sections and slowly bringing the two cars together, getting these sills permanently onto the car is a pretty satisfying milestone.

We're getting closer to the point where this stops looking like two cars that have been cut apart… and starts looking like one completely new machine.

And at the end of the episode, we get another glimpse of what the finished SubaRancho could actually look like.

This is the SubaRancho — a Talbot Matra Rancho body swap onto a Subaru Impreza WRX chassis.
