Telegin hasn't yet found his place in life. And his relationship with Dasha isn't going well, especially after the death of their child. So they decide to separate for a while. Doctor Bulavin, Katya and Dasha's father, has become an assistant minister in the Samara Socialist Revolutionary government. When Ivan Ilyich appears before him, begging him to tell him at least a word about Dasha...
Bulavin unhesitatingly betrays his son-in-law. Telegin manages to escape, exchanging a few words with Dasha. But for him, these words were more precious than any passionate declarations: Dasha still loves him. Having left her hated father's house, Dasha, after long wanderings, falls into the Reds' ranks. Telegin's name helps her become close to good people: Agrippina Chebrets, Ivan Gora, and others. Dasha remains working at headquarters. Some time later, she meets her husband.
