LIVE | Mali's Big Comeback: Putin's Russia Helps Retake Kidal From Rebel Forces | Firstpost Africa

Description: Watch this video as a high-stakes geopolitical turnaround shatters the Sahel. Months after Tuareg separatists and Al-Qaeda-linked JNIM terrorists overran northern Mali—humiliating Bamako and killing its defence minister—Malian armed forces have struck back. Backed by heavy air support from Russia’s Africa Corps, General Assimi Goïta’s forces have triumphantly re-entered the strategic city of Kidal without ground resistance, forcing rebel fighters into a desert retreat. But as Bamako celebrates its biggest strategic comeback of the year, the victory exposes a deeper global collision. With Mali's Foreign Minister exposing foreign proxy meddling at the United Nations, and neighbouring Niger accusing Western powers of orchestrating regional chaos, Kidal has become the ultimate testing ground for Russia's security model in Africa. Josh Barnes brings you more on Firstpost Africa.
