Barry Manilow - Copacabana (At The Copa) 1978 /The Second Barry Manilow Special /Improved
Description: The Second Barry Manilow Special - Aired on February 24, 1978 - ABC.
(Segment) Barry Manilow - Copacabana - Aired in Spain /Aplauso - December 9, 1978.
The second part of the 1970s goofiness is when “Copacabana” gets played, which Manilow shows off not only some dance moves, but the fluffy sleeved shirt that many, and sometimes Manilow himself, had poked fun at looking back years later. Nevertheless, the good thing about this song is the different third verse sung, probably due to the TV execs. Adding a different verse comes later as well. The show dancers get the spotlight as well, walking down the steps of the lobby, and once the song ends, a delivery man walks in to find Barry along again dancing, keeping a theme that he was possibly dreaming the whole thing. Outfit notwithstanding, this segment shows the extravagance of having a musical special that would attract viewers and a historical look at how pre-streaming television was; you either saw the show when it was aired live or you missed it.
