They Made India's SBI Bank CRYYYY! SBI Confirms DATA Leak in India #shorts
Description: State Bank of India has acknowledged a data-loss incident after identifying 3,897 customer records containing personal information in material available on the dark web. In its October 21 disclosure, SBI said the findings emerged from a preliminary examination of approximately 3.75 lakh records. That larger figure should not be interpreted as confirmation that 3.75 lakh SBI customers were affected.
The reportedly exposed information includes names, registered mobile numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, residential addresses, branch details and customer identification numbers, alongside information associated with loan enquiries. The bank said further investigation was needed to establish the data’s authenticity, source and full extent.
SBI received alerts on October 16 and appointed an independent cybersecurity firm to investigate. It said core business operations continued normally, with no material impact on business continuity or financial performance. The disclosure does not establish that all customer accounts were compromised or that money was stolen.
For customers across India, a potential risk is more convincing impersonation. Someone who knows a customer’s name, branch or loan details could use that information to make a fraudulent call appear genuine. Familiar personal details alone should never be treated as proof that a caller represents the bank.
Customers should avoid unsolicited banking links and never share OTPs, PINs or passwords. Requests involving urgent KYC updates or threatened account suspension should be verified independently through official banking channels. Suspicious transactions should be reported immediately to the bank.
