Finding a suitable foundry involved safety, legal and operational considerations, eventually taking the crew to Finland. Filming required protective clothing and specialised camera equipment, with six melts scheduled over 24 hours.
Figure said the robots were trained to perform the movements used during the decommissioning. Their actions therefore reflected a planned engineering and filming exercise, rather than machines independently deciding to destroy themselves.
A small number of F.02 units remain in storage. Metal recovered from the process is being turned into limited-edition commemorative objects.
