Ghana Bids for BRICS Membership as India's Jaishankar Tours Africa | Firstpost Africa | N18G
Description: Watch this video as Firstpost explains how India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, initiated a five-day, three-nation African tour starting in Ghana, marking a crucial milestone in New Delhi’s Global South diplomacy. During bilateral discussions with Ghanaian President John Mahama and Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, both nations highlighted expanding trade ties, which have seen Ghanaian exports to India rise significantly. To solidify ties, India and Ghana signed key MoUs focusing on agricultural research and academic collaboration. Highlighted during the visit was Ghana’s formal decision to apply for BRICS membership, seeking India’s backing to diversify its international partnerships. Minister Jaishankar expressed India's backing while emphasising consensus-building among member nations. Speaking at Ghana's Foreign Service Institute, Jaishankar reinforced India's commitment to resilient supply chains and long-term African development. Following successful engagements in Accra, D. Jaishankar moves on to Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia. Josh Barnes brings you more on this story on Firstpost Africa.
