Hamas Bodyguard Given British Citizenship?! | Ellie Hodges & Benedict Spence
Description: On The Ellie Hodges Show, Ellie is joined by commentator Benedict Spence to discuss one of the weekend’s most extraordinary stories: reports that a man who previously worked on the security detail of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was granted asylum and later British citizenship.
Known publicly as “Mr X” because of legal restrictions, the man was arrested in London in November 2025 and is now facing possible extradition to Germany over allegations linked to a weapons plot targeting Jewish and Israeli sites in Europe. Jewish News
Ellie and Benedict ask what the Home Office and British security services knew, whether the asylum and citizenship system is capable of properly vetting applicants, and how authorities can deal with the security challenges posed by radicalisation and hostile foreign networks.
The conversation also moves into the wider political picture, including political polarisation, the decline of Britain’s traditional two-party system, Reform UK, Labour, the Conservatives, Gen Z politics, the growing political divide between young men and women, and why some younger voters are becoming increasingly sceptical of established institutions and even democracy itself. These are themes discussed by Ellie and Benedict during the programme. BEN BEN BEN
Is Britain’s political consensus beginning to break down? And what happens when a generation decides the old system simply isn’t working?
