Hurricane Isaias Strengthens Ahead of US Gulf Coast Landfall

Isaias’ top winds reached 120 miles (193 kilometers) per hour, making it a Category 3 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale, the US National Hurricane Center said in a special update at 8:20 a.m. New York time. The storm was about 240 miles south of Pensacola, Florida.

The hurricane is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday along the Alabama-Florida coast. Storm surge and tropical storm warnings extend west into Louisiana.
