A Pope arrives in Lourdes after 18 years
Description: Pope Leo XIV made history in Lourdes tonight, arriving not only as the Successor of Peter, but as a pilgrim.
He became only the third reigning Pope to visit the Marian sanctuary, following St. John Paul II—who came in 1983 and 2004—and Benedict XVI, who made his pilgrimage for the 150th anniversary of the apparitions in 2008.
At the Grotto of Massabielle, Pope Leo followed in their footsteps and joined generations of pilgrims who have come to entrust their prayers to Our Lady of Lourdes. Close description
