Trump’s Response to Russian Plague Reports Sounds…Familiar

Reports out of the Irkutsk region of Russia reveal a potential public health crisis after a lab accident exposed a researcher to a “particularly dangerous infection.” The researcher died days later.
Commander-(and unofficial doctor)-in-chief Donald Trump gave his thoughts on a seeming outbreak of the rare and often deadly pneumonic plague.
“They call it pneumonia,” said Trump, apparently mistaking pneumonia (an inflammation of the lungs) for the pneumonic plague (a disease caused by the Yersinia pestis bacteria that is usually fatal if not immediately treated.)
Trump assured that the White House was “looking at it very closely” and would help Russia with the problem.
Of course, Donald Trump was in charge during the COVID-19 global pandemic, when he downplayed the threat, promoted false and dangerous treatments, and actively disseminated conspiracy theories about the origins of the virus.
Some worry that Trump seems to be going back to his old ways, spreading unsubstantiated “science” in an effort to look like he has everything under control.
